Rake is the fee taken by the online poker room in cash games when a pot is won. The rake is taken primarily to cover the costs of the poker room. From Tuesday January 5 Ladbrokes Poker has changed the method of calculation of the rake.

Earlier the rake was calculated on the basis of the contribution method. Now it will be calculated on the basis of the weighted average basis. This change is being made across all poker rooms on the Microgaming Poker Network, of which Ladbrokes Poker is one. The weighted average basis will be fairer, especially to players who are learning the game. This is expected to bring in wider participation, which fits in with the objectives of Ladbrokes Poker.

Head of Ladbrokes Poker, Kate McLennan said, “Ladbrokes are on a mission to ‘bring poker to the people’, to simplify and make online poker more accessible, to make it easier to learn and to develop one’s skills and to make it fairer for players.” The new method of calculating the rake will do just that. McLennan also pointed out that the rake is not being increased. The total rake taken per pot will remain the same. Only the relative contribution of the players will change. McLennan added, “This is a positive beginning to the New Year and I look forward to what will to be an exciting 2010 for Ladbrokes Poker and all our players.”

Ladbrokes Poker is one of the oldest online poker rooms. It is licensed and regulated in the gaming jurisdiction of Gibraltar. At Ladbrokes Poker players can qualify online for major land casino poker tournaments like WSOP and EPT.
